Lee Lue

Lee Lue was one of the first Hmong pilots trained to fly the T-28 during the Secret War in Laos. Originally a schoolteacher and talented soccer player, Lee Lue's exceptional skills made him a natural fit for the challenging role of a pilot. He was trained under a program led by CIA officer Bill Lair, who was instrumental in advocating for the training of Hmong pilots despite initial skepticism from some American officials. Lee Lue quickly distinguished himself as a courageous and skilled pilot, flying numerous combat missions and playing a key role in the defense of Laos against communist forces. Tragically, he was killed in action in July of 1969 during a bombing mission over Muong Soui. Lee Lue is remembered as a hero among the Hmong people for his bravery and contributions to the U.S. efforts in the conflict in Laos (Anthony & Sexton, 1993; Celeski, 2015).
